Lot 6232
ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Abaqa, AH 663-681 / AD 1265-1282. Dirham (Silver, 18 mm, 2.73 g), [Marw], AH 679 = 1280/1. Within a square, ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘fī shuhūr sana [679]’ (‘In the months of the year 679’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a circle, ‘lillāh / al-mulk / qāʾān al-ʿādil’ (‘The kingdom is Allah’s. The just Khan’ in Arabic); bow below. Album 2136M. Diler A-105. Rare and with an interesting spelling error. Areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. D. Löer, formed since the 1970s, privately acquired from Ancient Coins Canada.

A curious minor detail about this coin is that ‘lillāh’ in the reverse field is wrongly written as ‘Allāh’!
